Strategy games that respect your commute
Some of the best strategy sessions happen underground on a train with no signal. The trouble is how many mobile games now insist on a constant connection even for single-player content.
When I pick commute games, offline support is the first filter. A game should save your progress locally and pick up where you left off, not throw a reconnection spinner mid-wave.
Tower defence tends to do well here because each level is self-contained. Short RPGs and puzzlers also fit, as long as they don't gate energy or progress behind servers. Simulation games are hit and miss.
The quiet signal of a well-made offline game is that nothing changes when you lose signal. No warnings, no stalls. Those are the ones that earn a permanent spot on my phone.
